Chris Pronger
I continue to experiment in this style which is a cross between cartoons and realism, I'm going to do several more of these (probably one for every team) I really like the finished product. Here's the latest work I just finished of Anaheim's Chris Pronger.

Brian Campbell
Well it finally happened...the Sabres traded away another one of the teams most beloved players, only this time they got something in return. I stand behind management on this one we could not pay him 6 mil a year and be able to afford Miller and several other young players and remain under the cap. So as I am very sad to see him go, it's only for the greater good for the team. Good luck Soupy!
Mask Series - Boston Bruins
Now it's time to look at some Boston Bruins masks. Since they're an original 6 team there's plenty of them to choose from. I really like all of these, the Bruins have a team name and symbol that can work well on masks with the fierce Bear look and all. personally I like the two masks in both lower corners, the detail in the bears is incredible.

Danny Briere
Today Danny Briere and the Flyers come back to town. The Flyers are victims of 10 straight losses similar to the sabres streak not so long ago. The thing is how long can it go on? hopefully one more game for my happiness. So i unleash my work on Danny Briere.

Cartoonish - phase 1
I was inspired by Paul's work that I wanted to try and do a cartooish style hockey drawing. Here's what I got... not quite what I had envisioned, but I like it anyway, it's basically a realistic drawing without any shading. I'm used to going for realism so I guess it's a heard breakthrough even if cartoons are my life. I'm going to keep working on this and start to exaggerate more this until I get a style down. enjoy the progress.
Mask Series - Atlanta Thrashers
I'm going to try and make Tuesday the day for goalie masks. I'm doing them alphabetically so up this week is the Atlanta Thrashers, not much to wow about here, the logo is kind of meshed together probably the reason why we see some non-logo like designs on the masks.

pencil work, Roy, Hasek
I'm a little depressed this week with the Sabres turning their unbeaten streak into a two game losing streak, I'm going to the game on Wednesday vs. Tampa so hopefully they win that and move up the standings. Here are some pencil drawings from years ago.

Artist Paul Nichols
Now let’s take a look on the lighter side of Hockey art, caricatures! Paul Nichols has done some great Caricatures of the Capitals and has them posted on his blog. The caricature of Nick Backstrom makes me laugh every time I look at it, I don’t know what it is, the expression and the hair are great! I have a link to his blog on the right and here:

Pen series 3
Speaking of stippling, I do have some work somewhere but until I find it, I’ll just post another one of my old pen drawings. I like to call this fast stippling, instead of dots it’s done with lines (saves time) with a pen.
Artist Chris Tucci
Today I want to post some work from Chris Tucci. He has some really gorgeous work! He mainly uses the technique “stippling”, Stippling is really tedious because it consists of millions of tiny ink dots. While it is tedious, it produces some beautiful results as you can see and you can get a lot of detail which is a big deal when it comes to hockey art.

It's Miller time!
Wow! What a nail bitter tonight! The Sabres won again 1-0 over Toronto to get 2 points and move up to 7th place. What a streaky team, hopefully this streak continues for a long time. Well Ryan Miller usually doesn't get many shutouts (usually lets in at least one fluky goal in these situations) but he's been great lately and I will honor that with some more drawings of him.
Curtis Johnson
Here’s some work from Canadian based artist Curtis Johnson. One hockey painter that also works in the abstract which I think can work really well with hockey. His paintings capture the feeling of the game like few pieces I’ve seen. I posted my favorite works from his website, you can check out more of his work here: http://www.cujoart.com/

Mask Series - Anaheim Ducks
This will be the first in a series of looks into the artwork on the goaltenders masks for different teams. This team has been in the league for about 15 years now, they started out as the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim (Disney owned) so there have been quite a few different designs. My favorite is the duck/skeleton mask with the red eye, I appreciate that because I know I was worn by Steve Shields who had something with a red glowing eye on just about every mask he wore, I think that tradition ended when he went to Boston, but I've liked every one of his masks.

Pen Series 2
Looking over some of these drawings, every player I have is no longer on their respective team that I've immortalized them on, oh well that's free agency for you. I don't remember who this Blues player is, but the Coyotes goalie is Brian Boucher.
Artist David Arrigo
I'd like to bring some attention to an article that was posted on NHL.com this past weekend. David Arrigo looks to be the NHL's go to guy for murals for special occasions, check out his website for more of his work. He even has some goalie mask paintings on there, a feature I plan on doing soon.

Pen Series 1
Starting in 1998 I started to do a series of pen sketches for every team in the league adding a little piece here and there to create 1 big poster of sketches for that team when ever I thought or was inspired to do it.
well it's 2008 10 years later and I think I pretty much stopped in 2004 do to many concerns I had, some of the sketches I just didn't like at all and since it was in pen I could do NOTHING! If I would start it again I would do it all digitally but I wasn't as sophisticated when I was 17 back in 1998. So I will post some of my favorite sketches from this little project called "The Pen Series"
I'm so happy the Canucks beat the Thrashers today to help my Sabres out so I'll start with them...enjoy the series many more to come.
