Throw Back Thursday: Patrick Roy
For this edition I find it as good as timing as ever to post this artwork I did of legendary goaltender Patrick Roy of the Colorado Avalanche for this image. Yesterday there was a lot of talk on Buffalo sports radio as to bringing Patrick Roy in as the Sabres next coach and to that I would say: yes please. would give the franchise and the position much respect and he knows how to win, as a goaltender and coach, as far as the Jr level anyway.

SportsNic's part 3
Here are some more of Kevin's NHL themed SportsNic's from his '09 collection, be sure to click the link on the side bar for more of his SportsNic's in past posts. These are really neat designs and creative use of the teams' logo's. In this Post the Senators one is my favorite ones, this post includes New York Rangers, Ottawa Senators, Philadelphia Flyers and Phoenix Coyotes, enjoy!

Throw back Thursday: Byron Dafoe
For this edition of throw back Thursday, another piece from a Hockey in Art regular Jim Link featuring Boston Bruins goalie Byron Dafoe rendered in Jim's signature sharpie style artwork. Dafoe was the Bruins starting goaltender of the late 90's and was quite good as much as I can remember although I don't recall being scared whenever the Sabres faced them, but then again when the Sabres had Hasek not many other goalies were that intimidating. I'll remember him most against the Sabres defeated the Bruins in round 2 of the '99 playoffs.

Hockey Art by Michael Slotwinski
Michael sent me a link to his website: Slots Art Studio. Michael has several works of art in the galleries on his site, and quite a few pieces for the hockey enthusiast. Most of his works are goalies, particularly their masks, he has some really nice pieces here, my favorite probably being Bernie Parent due to the lighting and use of shadows and less for the subject matter (not a flyers fan) he makes Parent look more intimidating than he already was for opposing shooters . Be sure to check out his site and browse yourself. Thanks for linking us to your website Michael!
Here are a few of my favorites from his site...

Throw Back Thursday: Mike Liut
Thomas has sent in his old time hockey sketch of Mike Liut from the St. Louis Blues. Thomas has also submitted sketches before you can see in this post. Thomas seems to have a knack for the Old style goalies, and this won't be the last of them. Thanks again Thomas, great work to kick of the 1st Throw back Thursday on the Hockey in Art blog.

Gerry Cheevers
Steve Mantz sent in his stippling illustration of Gerry Cheevers. Steve writes "I normally work in pen and ink, occasionally watercolor and sometimes both. I hope you enjoy it."
Thanks Steve, thats some great stippling work, would love to see more of your work to add to the blog. I'm greatly appreciate you sending it in.
I have been busy lately with work and other prospects lately but I have accumulated a lot of work by you guys and some I have uncovered old and a few new pieces. I'm going to try and do a post or two a week and I love all the old time hockey art work I've been getting through the lockout so I will try to do a feature that I stole from twitter or instagram (I don't know which) "Throwback Thursday" I have some old time or not as new hockey art work, so keep those art works coming. Speaking of which you can follow me on twitter: Ngandt and instagram: nfg801, I'm in the process of adding all my artwork onto intragram.
As for the season so far, the Sabres are awful, Ruff got let go in a necicary but still emotional move for a Sabres fan, basically my team seems to be a mess and is not sure what to make of it's self. Hopefully some new direction will help out a lot and as I'm typing they lose to the Hurricanes and a strong preformance from the Hurricanes 3rd string goalie Peters.
How about the amazing run from the blackhawks, I'll have to have some blackhawk realted posts soon or maybe not (don't want to jinx it).
Thank's to everyone for reading the blog!
