Hockey in Art: Hockey art contest round 1
Two submissions so far for the 1st Hockey Art contest for the blog sponsored by The Fan Zoo and they are both good ones. I also would ask anyone submitting work to also let me know what medium you used to create the artwork, it will probably help the voters. Submissions are being taken until December 12th for a $50 gift Certificate to The Fan Zoo online store!
The 1st submission is from Shelly Bryant and is a Prisma coloured pencil drawing of Alex Burrows.
The 2nd is from a contributor to the blog Leauphaun, a pencil drawing of Henrik Sedin...or is it Daniel?
So far both submissions are Vancouver related...submit your artwork to NFG801@AOL.COM by December 12th to be eligible for the voting!

Foogos: Sidney Crosby...or crosbaby?
Alright I am a Sidney Crosby fan, no matter how many times he has upset me making a fool of Ryan Miller in the 1st Winter Classic and the Olympics, but he's just really good and I'm partial to the Penguins having lived in Pittsburgh for years. Scott over at Foogos Here created this portrait of Sidney Crosby out of baby food I just had to post it, the underlining meaning of using baby food, poking fun that a lot of the Crosby haters refer to him as a bit of a baby, just great. What makes Scott's projects so interesting is not only that it's logos or artwork out of food is the underlying meaning of the type of food used for the particular piece that puts his work above any other food related art work...if there is any.

Goalie's Mask: red, white & Dryden
Well tonight sucked for me, I have no feel for my Sabres team right now after a loss to the Islanders 2-1. The looked good at times but just couldn't hit the net all night, especially when it counted. They do have a lot of Injuries so I hope they will come together when the bulk of the team is back. I'm getting back into things here now, I've started painting some and idea shopping more goalie masks, I should have some up soon as well as more great work from Jim Link.
Anyway this piece was brought to my attention from Robert who is a friend of the artist whos other work can be seen here The artist Brandy Saturley has a few paintings related to hockey at her website, and this is by far the coolest and the one I would have displayed. Her gallery celebrates Canadian themes, and what better illustrates those than hockey, coldness and of course Tim Hortons, her paintings just make you feel Canada.

Jim Link: Miikka Kiprusoff
Jim sent in a treasure trove of art work not to long ago and each one is fantastic. My sabres are taking of the Flames tonight so I decided to post his drawing of Miikka Kiprusoff. There as been some controversy for Sabres fans recently, questioning Ryan Millers play, frankly the team as a whole has not been playing as a team, and yes Miller usually stops some of the goals that he's allowed but I have no doubt he will be able to work on his game and get back to his usual puck stopping self. If I was the coach I'd give him tonight off, play Enroth to allow Miller some more practice time and to get things right on the road where he doesn't have the pressure of the home fans. We'll see how it goes....herrreeeee's Kipper!

Happy Halloween! puck pumpkins
Happy Halloween! I created these pumpkins for some players of the Port Colborne Jr. B Pirates. The 1st is biznasty, the picture doesn't do it justice but you can kind of see the resemblance, then there is the Port Colborne Pirates logo, which is similar to the Portland Pirates logo if you ask me.

Buffalo Jr. Sabres of the OJHL
Here is a piece that I created for a friend of mine Andrew Poturalski who is currently the leading scorer for the Buffalo Jr. Sabres and 5th in scoring in the OJHL but some how never scores in games that I attend, at least recently. Anyway if you're in the Buffalo area go down to the Northtown Center to cheer them on, print the picture and have him autograph it for you (he would be glad to) he's that good.

Hockey Art from Yuri
My first international submission from Russia! Yuri sent in these two great hockey Characters. When I think of Russian Art this is the style I usually think of and add hockey to that and you got this. Really cool and futuristic look, proud to now have Russian art on the blog.

Minimalist NHL Posters
I found these via the Puck Daddy yahoo blog and thought they were so cool and a great idea, perfect for the blog. Graphic artist Mike Chuhon created "Minimalist NHL Posters" for all 30 NHL teams. you can take a look and buy items such as posters or shirts here He takes minimal elements of each teams logo and created a poster for that team in a simplistic interesting way, a lot of them look great so don't work as well as others I'd say but they are all pretty awesome, I liked so many of them I'm relieved he has a poster with every one (which I will surely be buying).

Mini Goalie Mask: Vancouver Canucks
I remember collecting those mini goalie mask key chains but didn't care for just the team logo printed on the top so I got inspired to paint a design based on the team logo on each mask. no these are from years ago (early 2000's I think) so some logos will be outdated but i think some of them are pretty cool. Here's number 28, The Vancouver Canucks mini goalie mask. This is the final mask in the series, hey at the time there were 28 teams at the time...30 by the time i finished so the Islanders and Wild were left out. Now I'll be back to posting some submitted art work and revisiting some familiar artists with new work...the season has begun!

Mini Goalie Mask: Chicago Blackhawks
Well the season is about a month away, one of the reasons posts here have been scarce over the summer is due to moving into a new house, some good news though is that I uncovered some long lost hockey related art projects I created over the years. I'm going to try to post one a day, a perfect build up to the start of the season. I remember collecting those mini goalie mask key chains but didn't care for just the team logo printed on the top so I got inspired to paint a design based on the team logo on each mask. no these are from years ago (early 2000's i think) so some logos will be outdated but i think some of them are pretty cool. Martin St. Louis from Ian and Steven Stamkos twitter pic
Ian submitted this sketch he drew of Tampa Bay forward Martin St. Louis! Thanks Ian!
Speaking of Tampa Bay, I just learned a player that goes by the name Steven Stamkos is using my art work of him as his twitter pic @RealStamkos91 which is Really awesome. It was one of my favorite pieces but it's great to see it used by him #honored, here is the full post from earlier with the artwork.
