2014 Playoffs Boston Bruins vs Detroit Redwings

This has been a what you call "defensive" series with very little goals scored, it looks like Boston will end up taking the series currently holding a 3 games to 1 lead with game 5 today in Boston, it doesn't help the wings that their #1 goalie Jimmy Howard will be out now. I picked Boston in 6, I thought if anyone could take out Boston in the east it could be Detroit, I also think it could be Montreal in round 2.

Roger Crozier by Thomas Harding

Thomas has been a regular contributor to the blog so I created a link in the artists section on the right side of the page if you want to view all of his work. He has sent in some great old time goalie drawings, and each is better than the next, in my opinion.

Here he submits his drawing of Roger Crozier playing goal for the Detroit Red Wings. As a Sabres fan, and yet to be born during his playing days, What I knew of Crozier is that he was was the 1st Sabres goalie and played some big games for the Sabres in the 1970's and played in the infamous fog game in the cup finals in 1975 against the Flyers.

Old Time goalies by John Dykes

2013 Stanley Cup Playoffs Round 2: Chicago Blackhawks vs Detroit Redwings

My final post for round 2 is Chicago and Detroit, the series is currently 3-2 heading into game 6 in Detroit and Chicago looks to force a game 7 back home.

2013 Stanley Cup Playoffs: Anaheim Ducks vs Detroit Redwings

This has been a rather back and fourth series, currently Anaheim leads the series 2-1, Anaheim have been out playing Detroit more than not, with only game 2 going to OT, and that was almost a great comeback by the ducks to score a bunch of goals late and rattle Detroit and force it to overtime only to lose by a power play goal early in OT. The Ducks seem to have come back and dominated game 3 winning 4-0, let's see if they maintain momentum for game 4 or allow Detroit to tie the series. It's been a frustrating couple of weeks now with the lockout, I've been doing a number of things and focusing more of remembering some of the great players I watched growing up. So until the lock-out is over I think I'll be posting some "old-time" NHL related artwork other than current. Dave sent me a link to his website The Wilkinson Gallery with images of his work, he has different types of artwork posted and of several different sports. As far as hockey related work there's mostly Philadelphia Flyers art work, pretty cool to browse around. Of all the hockey related artwork he has on his site, these two where my favorite ones. He has a great style to most of his work a few little effects to push the art into something more alive and organic.

SportNic's

Kevin Lynch sent in a series of what he terms as SportNic's, it is a series of stylized goalie artwork for each NHL team that he drew by hand. I love the style and look of them and the team logos on the goalie pads as well as incorporated through out the equipment is a great touch although I don't believe they are all represented to be Chris Mason (See Jets pads). Kevin sent in several different samples of his SportsNic's from different teams, I'll post more at a later date, as Kevin says he is working on several more and a new series as far as how he came up with the style: "It's a character that comes out of years and years of sketching and playing Goalie." As well as creating these goalie ones for several different years he also has a VintageNic(59-80) Series, and a few smaller 'Nic Series, like Olympic,NCAA, and MN High School 'Nics. 2012 Playoffs Predators Vs. Red Wings

Earlier tonight the Predators eliminated the Red wings 4 games to 1. While each game was close, I thought the Wing would be able to push it to 7 Games. Although the Red wings aren't at their best in say Game for, this series shows how sound they are Defensively. I really like the Predators to go to the Western Finals, I can see them facing the Blues there and which ever team gets the breaks will go to the cup.

Mini Goalie Mask: Detroit Redwings

I remember collecting those mini goalie mask key chains but didn't care for just the team logo printed on the top so I got inspired to paint a design based on the team logo on each mask. no these are from years ago (early 2000's I think) so some logos will be outdated but i think some of them are pretty cool. NHL Playoffs round 2: Detroit Redwings vs. San Jose Sharks

San Jose surprisingly has a 3-0 series lead right now on Detroit, it's been close though with 2 overtime games. So here is Detroit's Pavel Datsyuk and San Jose's Antti Niemi.
